Discussion

The Great Lakes clipper-type low pressure system that we've talked about for the last few days has indeed produced an inch or so of snowfall in and around the District metro region with even higher accumulations just south of here, and it will pull away from the area by mid-morning. Bitter cold conditions will continue this afternoon and today’s chill will be magnified by wind gusts of 30 mph which will generate very low wind chill values in the single digits. Low pressure will head from the Tennessee Valley on Friday to the Mid-Atlantic coastline and accumulating snow is likely throughout the region during the afternoon and evening hours. At this time, the late week storm appears likely to generate a light-to-moderate snowfall for the region on the order of 1-3 inches with slick road conditions developing, and we’ll continue to monitor the situation for any late changes. More very cold air will follow for the upcoming weekend; however, moderation in temperatures is likely early next week. In fact, it'll turn much milder on Tuesday and Wednesday, but that warm up will be short-lived as colder air returns on Thursday.
