Discussion

The major coastal storm that we have been talking about for days now is beginning to take shape this morning along the coastal sections of North Carolina. It will intensify rapidly as it moves northeast to a position off the New England coast by early tomorrow. Temperatures here will climb to the low 40’s so any mixed precipitation will become rain in the District, but it could remain as a mixture for awhile in the northern and western suburbs. Colder air wraps around the storm by tonight and there is chance the rain could change to snow north and east of here across northern Maryland with small accumulations possible. Winds will pick up tonight as the coastal low intensifies on its way to off the New England coast by tomorrow morning. An all-out blizzard will occur tonight into early Saturday from northern New Jersey across NYC to New England with all the works (heavy snows, extreme winds, thundersnows, blowing, drifting, etc).
